ON FORWARD POLICIES AND ACTIONS FOR THE SENIORS IN EUROPE

Objectives

The project has been the result of municipality meetings on the issue of quality of life of the seniors in Europe.
The representatives of the municipalities involved in the application have been discussing the local/regional situation and the trends that are characterising the local communities when it comes to quality of life of the seniors 60+. The result of the discussions is the need of developing a systematic approach - a long-term European framework of cooperation that can provide an answer to the shared trends that are characterising the municipalities/countries involved.

In the discussions it has been emphasized that the work is to be carried out in close connection with the citizens themselves. The overall objective is to stimulate and create joint and innovative actions between municipalities and the organisation of the civil societies as well as other actors both locally and transnationally in order to:

• Develop innovative local policies and actions aimed at tackling more effectively the needs of the seniors
• Encourage and empower the seniors so they become an active subject both locally and in Europe in
participating in and increasing their influence and responsibility on decision-making processes affecting their
daily life as a senior and citizens.

• Increase and widen the public and private services (and products) for the elderly for all kinds of activities in
the daily life of the elderly population / seniors in a demand driven perspective.
